Popular Gomboru Market in Maiduguri has again been gutted by fire.
The fire broke out at Yan Katako, a part of the market where wood and carpentry materials are sold. The fire began by 9: 55pm, leaving many shops with wood materials gutted by the time fire service operatives arrived. It was gathered that traders had closed at the time.
An eyewitness identified as Mallam Habib Mohammed told Daily Trust that the damage cannot be immediately ascertained but the situation was put under control late on Wednesday night. The cause of the fire is still not known.
The market was also gutted by fire which destroyed goods worth hundreds of millions in 2023.
