Man laments as police assault friend, extort ₦60k without cause

A Nigerian man has taken to social media to recount a harrowing encounter with the police, where officers allegedly assaulted his friend, forced them to kneel on the roadside, and extorted ₦60,000 from them despite finding no wrongdoing.

Sharing his ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:

“Yesterday night really opened my eyes, mehn. This country is going nowhere if we don’t start speaking up.”

He went on to detail the distressing experience:

“Last night, the police slapped my friend Kay, who was in the front seat of our car. They made me and my producers kneel on the road, then took us in their car to the station before settling for ₦60,000 on the way there. They found nothing on us before doing all of this. A bunch of power-drunk beasts. Nigeria, my country.”

The post was accompanied by a video capturing parts of the incident.

As it gained traction online, concerned Nigerians flooded the comment section, expressing outrage over the alleged abuse of power.
