I bought the mansion in Maryland, USA before I became governor – Orji Uzor Kalu explains after video of him showing off his multimillion dollar US house went viral

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said that his multimillion dollar mansion he showed off recently was purchased before he became governor of Abia state.

Over the weekend, a video of the governor taking a man on a tour of the property located in Potoma, Maryland, USA made the rounds on social media. The man taking the tour mentioned that the former governor also has a house in Texas, North Carolina and even in the United Kingdom. He stated that the House in Potomac faces the popular River Potomac and is a prime property with other wealthy people residing in the area.

After the video went viral, some Nigerians accused the former Senate Chief Whip of purchasing the house with money he embezzled while he was in office.

In a video he released today September 10, Kalu set the record straight. He mentioned that the said property was purchased years before he came into politics.

‘’I own a house in Boston, Massachusett and I sold it and put the money to buy where I live now in Washington, DC. It was the same house Obasanjo was hailing when I was governor in 2003 and the US authorities came and looked at it when Bush was President.

I bought the house before I became governor because it was proceeds from the house in Mattapan, Boston that I used in buying the house and it was properly declared in my asset declaration. The houses are in my name. I never bought it to hide from anybody that I own a house.

I bought it in 2003”

Kalu was governor of Abia state from 1999 to 2007.
